Day 268 of 1827: Learning Spanish Vowels the Hard Way

Day 268 of 1827: Learning Spanish Vowels the Hard Way

As seems to be the case these days (and much to my annoyance, I might add), a super productive workday is unerringly followed by a rather unproductive workday.

Yesterday was a super productive workday.  Guess what happened today.

I grabbed lunch this afternoon with my Colombian friend at a surprisingly good Chinese restaurant near my apartment.  My roommate and I discovered this place right before he returned to the States for a couple of months, and I’d been meaning to return.

When I asked our server what the specials of the day were, I could have sworn she said pulpo.  Sweet! I love octopus!

You can imagine my surprise when she brought me a piece of beef, instead.

Um… wait, what?

And that was how I learned the difference between pulpo and pulpa.

On the way back to my apartment, my friend pulled me into a Salcobrand so that we could get some cough medicine.  By this point, I was mostly over being sick from last week, but I had this cough that just refused to go away, and it was driving both of us crazy.

I have a theory about cough medicine:  The worse it tastes, the better it works.  Well, this stuff is awful; I ought to be back to normal in no time!

That… or I accidentally bought toe fungus remover instead of cough syrup.  My medical Spanish isn’t too good yet….

The rest of the day was rather uneventful.  I think I managed to get more done in Duolingo today than actual work.  Blah.

We’ll try again tomorrow… and then this weekend ought to be really interesting (:

Beautiful sunset!
In the meantime, here’s a pretty sunset.
